Stilbite - Huge Stilbite crystal with Hematite inclusions & Apophyllite
Origin: India, Maharashtra, Jalgaon District
This mineral was named in 1797 by Jean Claude de la Métherie. The name is derived from the Greek word "stilbein", to glitter of shine, because of the pearly lustre of the crystal formations. It is a low-temperature secondary hydrothermal mineral, a member of the Zeolite group, that occurs in cavities of basaltic volcanic rocks.
The name now refers to the zeolite subgroup minerals that include the Barrerite - Stilbite-Ca - Stilbite-Na - Stellerite series, but in this case Stilbite-Ca.
It is a variable mineral ranging in colour from white, colourless, cream, light yellow, orange, pink, red and light to dark brown.
We are offering exquisite hand-picked Zeolite minerals with extraordinary features, large crystals, inclusions and with beautiful combinations of other Zeolite minerals. In some the base has been cut for the best display angle.
The photos were taken in bright sunlight to bring out their best colours.
