Black Ammonite Half (Cleoniceras species)


Origin: Madagascar, Mahajanga Province, Ambatolafia


Period: Cretaceous period (Albian Stage) – ca. 110 million years ago


These beautiful and rare black Cleoniceras ammonites are only known from Madagascar where they are found in limited numbers.


These beautiful specimens were cut in half and polished to show off the beauty of these fascinating extinct sea creatures.


Also known as Ammonoids, an extinct group of marine mollusc animals in the subclass Ammonoidea of the class Cephalopoda. These sea creatures lived between the Devonian and Cretaceous periods and are closely related to the living coleoids (like octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish we know today.
